DIGITAL MEDIA ARTS PROGRAM
The Digital Media Arts (DMA) Program is a 12-month program that provides students with an introduction to the skills and employment opportunities available to an entry-level employee in the digital media arts field and related industries.
Digital media students study and practice various aspects of video production, including digital filmmaking, basic photography skills, writing for digital media, non-linear editing, graphics and website design. Upon satisfactory completion of the DMA Program, successful graduates will be able to:
- Produce various types of video projects for broadcast and the World Wide Web;
- Design and maintain a basic website;
- Transform scripts into productions;
- Edit program material using non-linear editing stations;
- Work with multiple software programs to create still graphics and motion graphics;
- Compress and upload video
All digital media arts students are loaned a MacBook Pro computer loaded with software to support the program as part of the Specs Howard Access to Resources for Education (SHARE) Program*.
In order to offer students a flexible schedule without sacrificing face-to-face contact with instructors and classmates, the program is a hybrid of on-campus and online classes. Students attend class in a traditional classroom and lab two days a week at our Southfield campus.
Online classes are delivered via an online learning management software system and may be accessed wherever an internet connection is available. The online classes are designed to allow students to engage in the material at their own pace. Students should expect to spend a minimum of six hours per week in their online classes. In addition, the nature of various design exercises and projects require substantial homework.
