Career Options

GRAPHIC DESIGNERS ARE EVERYWHERE!

The following is just a short list of jobs available in today’s graphic design field:

Art/Creative Directors are in charge of a creative team that produces artwork and layouts to be displayed in magazines, on television, on billboards, on the web, or on products. Art directors manage a team of designers, photographers and other creatives to help meet a client’s needs.

Brand Identity Designers are concerned with the visual aspects of a company or organization’s brand or identity. A brand identity design is the visual element that represents the values and image of a company and its products.

Flash Designers create rich media and interactive presentations for the web. From animation to interfaces, flash designers create new experiences on the web.

Illustrators conceptualize and create illustrations that represent an idea or a story through two-dimensional or three-dimensional images.

Logo Designers develop designed symbols and/or type, arranged in a unique way, with distinct colors and shapes. The logo designs can represent a company, product, organization, agency, or service provider.

Motion Graphics Artists create graphics that use video and/or animation technology to create the illusion of motion and are usually displayed via electronic media technology.

Multimedia Designers can be found in such career fields as television or film production, animation, audio production, and set design, as well as several other multimedia, and production design fields. Multimedia designers combine video with other information to create appealing titles, information screens, and more.

Online/Content Producers oversee the making of content for websites by creating, editing and arranging the text, video, audio, images and other materials included on a website.

Photographers use the camera and other photography equipment such as lights, film, lenses, filters, digital technology, as well as their own creative vision, to produce images that communicate the desired message.

Photoshop Artists edit and retouch photos with editing software such as Photoshop. Their role is to help professional photographers and designers create flawless images.

Prepress Managers/Technicians are involved in a variety of tasks including checking printed proofs for errors and clarity. They correct mistakes, transform text and pictures into finished pages, and make printing plates of the pages.

Production/Layout Artists create the structure and layout out of printed media with images and text. This can include print ads, brochures, flyers, books, cd booklets, posters.

Technical Illustrators conceptualize and create three-dimensional images, storyboard sketches, and moving illustrations for animated productions, television commercials, movies, computer games, or set and exhibit designs.

Web Designers create web pages, layouts, and graphics. They play a key role in the development of a website. Web designers have the task of creating the entire outline of a web site before it is published.
